TEST
PROCEDURE OF POLYMER
DENSITY
Equipment -
mud balance
1) The
apparatus consists of a balance rod with a container on one end and a center
weight rider on the
other side
fitted on either side of a knife edge fulcrum.
2) A spirit
Level indicator is fitted to the balancing rod to indicate the level.
3) The
balancing rod is calibrated (to read within 5 gm/ml) to indicate the density.
Procedure
a) Sample
collected from the bottom of the pile bore by the mud sampler is poured into
the container
fitted to
the balancing rod.
b) The
walls of the container are taped to free any bubbles trapped in the sampler.
c) The lid
of the container is closed tightly. Make sure that some of the samples are
forced out of the
container
properly.
d) Clean
the outside of the container properly.
e) Place the balancing rod with the container on the knife edge fulcrum.
f) Move the
center weight rider forward or backward so that the level indicator on the
balancing rod
shows that
the rod is balanced.
g) Specific
gravity can be directly read from calibration on the balancing rod
corresponding to the rider
VISCOSITY
Equipment -
marsh funnel
1) The
apparatus consist of the following:
2) Funnel
with sieve on top to filter the sample while pouring into the funnel and a
small orifice at the
bottom.
3) A
graduated cup to be used as a receiver.
4) Stop
watch.
Procedure
1) Cover
the funnel orifice with a finger and pour freshly sampled drilling fluid
through the service into
the clean,
upright funnel. Fill until the fluid reaches the bottom of the screen.
2) Remove
the finger and start the stopwatch. Measure the time for mud to fill one quart
(946cm3)
mark of the
cup.
3) Report
the time to the nearest second as marsh Funnel viscosity.
PH Value
Equipment -
Electronic pH meter
The
apparatus consists of the following:
1) The
sensor rod
2)
Electronic display unit
PROCEDURE
1) Switch
on the apparatus
2) Insert
the sensor rod into the sample and wait until the reading stabilizes.
3) The pH value can be directly read form
the display
